About. On January 10, 1933, a meeting of local sportsmen was held at the Rhinebeck Town Hall. It was decided at this meeting, to form a club known as Northern Dutchess Rod & Gun Club.

Established in 1933
At this meeting, Carl VanKuren was elected President, an office that he held until his death in 1945. A second meeting was held on February 7, 1933. At this meeting, Lon DuBois gave a talk on what the Dutchess Sportsmen had done in previous years in the distribution of fish and game. A committee was formed to write the club’s by-laws. Later that year, the club joined the Dutchess County Federation of Fish and Game Clubs.Today our club is comprised of 100+ members, owns 342 contiguous wooded acres managed by our member-foresters, and is enrolled in New York State’s 480a program.
Our 4 acre pond is stocked several times a year with trout for our members’ fishing enjoyment and for our annual Trout Derby, held every April and open to the public. Our 3D archery, .22 woods walk shoots, and .22 steel plate shoots are also open to the public. Our many miles of trails are used for hiking. |
NRA Gold Medal Club
We are a 100% NRA Gold Medal Club, and an organizational member of the NRA, New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, the New York State Conservation Council, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce. The club organizes, maintains, and runs the annual Wildlife Exhibit at the Dutchess County Fair and has done so since the club was founded. We proudly sponsor a Junior Members program and Boy Scout Troup 228. We are a family oriented club and one of the most active in the Hudson Valley.
Our club has come a long way since that first meeting in 1933. We invite you to come visit during one of our public events or contact us for membership information. |
